Success requires vision to see, faith to believe, and courage to do.

When An Allegation Is Made
If you are the target of an allegation:
  • If a serious allegation is made, contact an Administrative Law attorney if your area does not have an attorney who specializes in foster care issues.

  • Request the policy and procedures concerning investigations for your agency. Find the Administrative Code for your state on the Internet or at your public library.

  • Contact your state or local Foster Parent Association for support. Many states have an allegation support team.

  • Gather evidence for your case. Look through old daily planners, notebooks, calendars.

  • Use Internet resources for research and support.

  • If you did nothing wrong, do not plea bargain.

  • Find out your rights for an appeal.

  • If the finding is not in your favor, fight back. Contact your Children Services director, county commissioner and legislators. Find someone who will listen to you.

  • Be professional and courteous at all times.

  • Advocate for allegation reform.
